A big THANK YOU to the 650 intrepid A-Series enthusiasts who joined us in the sometimes-sunny Winchester for an action-packed weekend – and especially to all those who volunteered their time marshalling and manning the gate. We hope you all had a great time!

We were very pleased to welcome a number of foreign visitors again this year, with plenty of French and Belgians, and even some Fins! It was great to meet you all - thanks for making the long trip to be with us... Sorry about the weather!

The children had fun making and racing their Egg Box Racers, while the adults enjoyed a hotly contested Tappet Case Racing competition – the first event of it's kind at a UK 2CV Meeting. The title was eventually won by 'Dalek SEC'. Thanks to everyone who took the time to build a racer - there was some real ingenuity on display, not to mention the fabulous decoration on some of the more flamboyant entries. Hopefully it will catch on, and more people will be encouraged to enter in future years. (Top Tip: bicycle wheel axels seemed to provide a competitive edge!).

Other fun and games included 'Drag' Racing (with excellent commentary provided by Mr Rob 'Club Shop' Hellawell), Quechua Wrestling (i.e. how quickly you can put a pop-up tent back in its bag) and Table Wrestling, in which the foolhardy competitors, mostly fuelled by beer, had to climb 360º around a table-top without touching the ground. Much hilarity ensued!

There was a scenic drive into Winchester itself, which made for a splendid photo opportunity with all the A-series cars parked outside the magnificent cathedral. On-site, there were farm tours around Sparsholt college, with it's wide variety of domestic and exotic animals, and the National Aquatic Centre.

Sunday afternoon brought 'A Taste of Britannia', in which local groups brought food and drink from their region. There was some fantastic beer and cheeses, and Jan 'Membership' John's freshly-made hot Welsh Cakes (with her own unique ingredient - chocolate chips!) proved a real hit with the crowd.

There will be a full report in the October magazine, but for now, here's some photos* that capture the spirit of the weekend...

[STOP PRESS! Rumour has it that next year we may all be heading for Somerset. Fingers crossed!]
